Life Issues: International Peace Movement

Sisters of Charity"Be the change you want to see in the world" Ghandi

Although the world has many areas of conflict and wars continue to rage in Iraq and Afghanistan, there is also a growing   grassroots effort to bring about peace through justice.   Many international, national and local groups seek peace.

Here are some examples of peacebuilding efforts.

United Nations Peacebuilding Commission This is a new intergovernmental body of the United Nations that supports peace efforts in countries emerging from conflict, and is a key   addition to the capacity of the international community in the broad peace agenda.   Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon , 27 June 2007.

PeaceXPeace This organization multiplies the power of women of leading edge communication technology.   The Peace by Peace Global network is the secure social networking space where women meet to build peace across cultures.

Pax Christi International is a global Catholic peace movement that works to help establish peace, respect for human rights, justice and reconciliation in areas of the world that are torn by conflict.   It is grounded in the belief that peace is possible and that vicious cycles of violence and injustice can be broken.

Pax Christi was founded in Europe 60 years ago as a reconciliation movement bringing together French and Germans after World War II.   Today the movement is active in more than 60 countries and five continents, with tens of thousands of members worldwide.
