"Queen of the Waves" commemorates
the song as it was sung by orphans and Sisters of
Charity of the Incarnate Word as the storm grew more
intense. This CD also includes the telling of the
story by one of the Sisters. Each year on the anniversary
of the storm, the Sisters sing Queen of the Waves
wherever they are in the world.
Galveston
Stories, a video of
stories which weaves the early history of Galveston Island
with the founding of the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate
Word. The majority of the program tells the tragedy of
the Great 1900 Storm which killed 6,000 men, women and
children in Galveston, including 10 Sisters and 90 children.
In this one-hour video, storyteller Linda Macdonald masterfully paints a verbal
image of Galveston's proud heritage. Weaving in stories from her own Galveston
ancestors, she presents a moving account of the city's history, especially the
Great 1900 Storm. This presentation was originally produced by the Sisters of
Charity of the Incarnate Word, Houston, for all those who co-minister with them
around the world. It was released to the public in commemoration of the 100th
anniversary of the Great 1900 Storm.
