Stories Sister Agnes Njeru, CCVI
I was born and brought up in a Protestant family, and therefore the idea of being a Catholic or a Nun was not among the goals I had in life. I had other plans for my future. A person plans her course, but the Lord directs her steps.
It was after completing my Secondary School education that I started thinking deeply how to strengthen my relationship with God. As I was discerning the best way of deepening my relationship with God, a childhood memory came into my mind. When I was in lower Primary School, the Catholic children would tease us because we were Protestants. They told us that we would go to hell when we die, because Jesus was a Catholic and He was the founder of the Catholic Church. This was more real to me during my discernment in becoming a good Christian. So I made up my mind to become a Catholic. I consulted my parents. My mother had no objection to it, but my father initially resisted
I started attending Catechism classes and in a few months time, I was baptized. Within the same week, I received the Sacrament of Confirmation. My greatest desire at this time was to live my baptismal vows faithfully and try the best I could to live them.
Several years later, I started desiring Religious Life. Thank God that I was working with Sister Miriam Therese Miller, a CCVI, whose simplicity and generosity attracted me very much. Through her I was able to get in touch with the Vocation Promoter, Sr. Francesca Kearns. I started attending prayer days and vocation seminars. Later I made my commitment as an Affiliate. In 2003, I joined the Congregation of the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word. I made my First Vows on the 10th of December 2005.
